  • Ministry of Environment, Rural, and Marine Affairs: Through the Secretariat General for Marine Affairs (former Secretariat General for Marine Fisheries), Probitec has worked on numerous projects dealing with fisheries and aquaculture in Spain as well as in other countries. For several years Probitec maintained the fisheries offices of the Secretariat General for Marine Affairs in Montevideo and Dakar. Similarly, through the Directorate General for Biodiversity, Probitec has been a consultant on the Natura 2000 Network in the marine environment and on the creation of a network of marine protected areas in Spain.

  • Fund for the Regulation and Market Organisation of Marine Fisheries and Aquaculture Products (FROM): Probitec has carried out several projects for FROM on the quality of fisheries products and their labelling and traceability. We have provided technical support over a three year term to this entity through a consulting contract. Also noteworthy is the work done on the almadraba technique of net fishing in the province of Cadiz to improve the productive capacity and quality, funded by FROM.

  • Mercasa: The national company Mercasa is in charge of the wholesale markets in Spain and belongs to the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs. Probitec has worked with Mercasa in the design of a reference fisheries centre in Algeria.

  • INNOVAMAR Foundation: The Technological Institute for the Development of Marine Industries Foundation (INNOVAMAR) has as its primary purpose to promote research and development in the areas of naval shipbuilding industry and auxiliary industries, marine shipping and the exploitation of marine resources. Probitec provided technical assistance to INNOVAMAR on the suitability of creating a Mutual Guarantee Society for the fishing sector.

  • Ministry of Production (Peru): Probitec has worked for the Fisheries Vice-ministry of Peru on several projects since 1999, in collaboration with entities decentralised from the institution itself such as IMARPE and FONDEPES. Among other actions the Strategic Plan for fisheries and aquaculture in the Titicaca Lake should be noted, as well as the technical assistance to improve 45 artisan fishing docks on the Peruvian coast and the region of Loreto. Also should be noted the work done to create and start up the aquaculture census and the technical feasibility study on the installation of a experimental farm to raise juvenile tuna in Peruvian waters.

  • Ministry of Science and Technology (Mozambique): Through financing from the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development, Probitec organised an International Seminar on marine biotechnology in Maputo. Additionally, during the past few years a project has been designed to implement a marine biotechnology laboratory in the country, with Spanish funding.

  • Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID): Since 1998 Probitec has carried out several different projects for AECID in the areas of fisheries and aquaculture, in Africa as well as in Latin America. Among them, we could note the assessments carried out in the Gulf of Fonseca, Belize, Colombia, Peru or Namibia, among others. Probitec has worked on contract in several technical assistance projects within the framework of the PADESPA project in Peru since 1999.

  • Ministry of Infrastructures, Transport and Telecommunications of Cape Verde: A study was carried out with Spanish funding on the modernisation of port infrastructures in the Mindelo port, related to cold storage capacity and operation of industrial fleets that use that port as a logistics base.

  • Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism in Spain: Probitec has prepared several project funding proposals using the FEV (Feasibility Studies Fund) and FAD (Development Aid Fund) funds, aimed towards the internationalisation of Spanish companies, having a good knowledge of the methodology and application process. Using those funds the company has carried out projects in Peru, Cape Verde, Algeria, and Mozambique.

  • OSPESCA: The Fisheries and Aquaculture Organisation of Central America is a reference in Latin America on joint management of fisheries and aquaculture resources. Probitec has been an advisor for OSPESCA fora. OSPESCA is an entity depending from the Central American Integration System

  • OLDEPESCA: The Fisheries and Aquaculture Organisation of Latin America, based in Lima, is becoming established as an essential tool for all fishing countries and countries with potential for the development of aquaculture in Latin America. Probitec has a mandate to seek projects and international funding prospects for them, acting as consultants in this matter.

  • International Labour Organisation (ILO): The ILO is trying to get all countries associated with the organisation to implement the 188 Work in Fishing Convention. In Spain, Probitec has completed a report on the 188 Convention in Spain, as well as presented at an international seminar on working conditions aboard fishing vessels.

  • PEW Environmental Trust: A USA environmental organisation with an ever increasing presence in Europe. Among others, PEW is the promoter and primary funder of the OCEAN2012, Seas at Risk and Shark Alliance platforms. Probitec has worked for PEW on an assessment of public financing for European fleets and the connection to illegal fishing activities.

  • Spanish National Research Council (CSIC): The CSIC in the main research institution in Spain, comprising all scientific disciplines. Probitec has participated in scientific collaborations with different institutes of the CSIC such as the National Museum of Natural Science and the Blanes Advanced Studies Centre on marine protected areas projects, and the implementation in Spain of international policies on the conservation of marine habitats and species.

  • Tragsatec: A public company with a large number of projects related to fisheries and the marine environment. Probitec has worked for Tragsatec on the evaluation of the costs of implementing the Natura 2000 Network in the marine environment.

  • WWF Spain: Reference NGO in Spain due to its commitment to environmental conservation. Since 1988, we have collaborated with WWF in the design and implementation of its marine strategy. Probitec has worked for WWF on numerous national and international consulting projects on fisheries and the marine environment; worth noting are the identification of a network of Marine Protected Areas in Spain, from which emerged the project Life + INDEMARES.

  • Intecsa-Inarsa (SNC-Lavalin): Spanish engineering company with a great deal of experience in port related issues. As a joint venture with this company, Probitec has carried out an analysis of 45 artisan fishing docks in Peru for the Vice-ministry of Environment. As well, Probitec has been part of several different proposals prepared by Intecsa-Inarsa, among which we may note the sonar mapping of different coastal regions in the Mediterranean and Canary Islands.

  • Central America Commission for Environment and Development: This is the organisation dedicated to environmental conservation of the Central American Integration System. The Commission is funded by different international donors among which is the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development: Probitec has worked for the commission to identify a line of action Araucaria XXI in the Gulf of Fonseca, leading to the current project known as “Corredor del Mangle” (Mangle Corridor).

  • Typsa-Tecnoma: Spanish group of companies with whom Probitec frequently collaborates in environmental projects both land based and marine based. In this line we may note the preparation of a environmental impact study of the construction project design for a marina in Cartagena.

  • Interatún: Tuna inter-professional organisation, set up by the tuna vessel shipowning companies and the tuna canning companies in Spain. Probitec developed for Interatun a project to improve the competitiveness of the tuna sector in Europe.

  • CEPESCA: The Spanish Fishing Confederation comprises the main fishing vessel shipowner associations in Spain. Probitec has been an advisor to CEPESCA, preparing competitiveness studies of the bottom trawling and longline fishing fleets. Additionally, experimental fishing campaigns have been designed for associates of Cepesca.

  • Fishing Company Clusters in Third Countries: The CEPPT is a business initiative of Spanish shipowners with fishing interests in other countries, particularly in Africa and Latin America. Probitec has worked with the Cluster providing technical assistance on the health situation of several different African countries and the adaptation of EU policy to export fishing products to Europe.

  • European Commission: Through different PHARE programmes funded by the European Union to facilitate the adaptation of fishing policies of countries undergoing the integration process.

  • CH2MHill: Consulting company with whom Probitec carried out several environmental impact studies on REPSOL/YPF oil exploration activities in Mediterranean and Atlantic waters.

  • Canary Islands Regional Government, Fisheries Department: The entity managing fishing activity in the Canary Islands region commissioned the services of Probitec to carry out several different audits on the eligibility for structural funds for fishing (IFOP) of the applications submitted related to fishing and aquaculture activities.
